Quinta do Noval is one of the mythical Port Wine House,which not only produces the most famous Vintage Port, the so unique "nacional" as it is also the only house whose top wines are exclusively "single vineyard" that is, all the harvesr comes from the same Estate, in Corgo Cima, in the Pinhão Valley, with 145 hectares of land.
Its history dates back to 1715, when his name first appears.
After the devastation caused by phylloxera in the Douro Valley, in 1894, the distinguished businessman António José da Silva takes the company, and thus, it gained new impetus with the replanting of almost the entire vineyard area.
In 1925, a very small part of the vineyard, with two hectares was selected for the attempt to keep the Portuguese indigenous vines, is this same plot, from which it goes to the market the mythical Nacional Vintage, considered the King of Port Wine.
Quinta do Noval beyound the famous Vintages, also pioneered the concept of Tawny with indication of age, 10, 20 and 40 years and was also the first house to launch on the market an LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) in 1954.
The first wine to be produced and sold from the smallest portion was the Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage 1931, considered the best port of the twentieth century.
The work of Antonio Jose da Silva was continued by his son in law, Luiz Vasconcelos Porto, who managed the company for 30 years and was responsible for a broad innovation program to the ancient terraces, making them larger, distinctive feature of Noval with their white painted stairs.
The Port wines of Quinta do Noval are today, after 300 years of its foundation, one of the outmost respected premium brands, synonymous with quality, knowledge, experience and expertise to do the best that Port Wine has to offer.
