Quinoa is a very nutritious seed, obtained from the plant of the legume family. It grows on the plateau of the South American Andes. Grains are moderate sources of energy and calories, and can be compared to cereals like wheat, corn, rice.
Quinoa means "maternal grain" in the Incan language. Quinoa is naturally gluten free and contains iron, B vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, vitamin E and fiber. It is one of the few plant foods considered a complete protein, containing all the essential amino acids.
